Is Semaglutide a Good Option for Weight Loss?

Is Semaglutide a Good Option for Weight Loss?

There’s no way around the fact that weight loss is tough. If you’ve been on a roller coaster of diets and nothing has really stuck in terms of weight loss, we assure you you’re not alone. In the United States, nearly three-quarters of the population is overweight, including two in five American adults who are obese.

Carrying excess weight can wreak havoc on your health and place you at far greater risk for serious diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular disease, so we’re glad you’re here to explore some new weight loss options, including semaglutide.

At CareOne Internal Medicine and Primary Care, our team prides itself on offering the tools and care that our patients need to optimize their health. When it comes to weight loss, our goal is to make sure our patients achieve meaningful results that last, and semaglutide can hold the key to these efforts. Here’s how.

How semaglutide works to help you lose weight

It’s not often that we find a medication to be truly game-changing, but semaglutide medications can be just that for patients, especially those who’ve struggled with dieting.

This weight loss drug works in three key ways:

1. Controlling blood sugar

Semaglutide medications are what we call glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. Glucagon is a hormone your body produces to raise your blood sugar levels, and semaglutide blocks this.

As well, GLP-1 medications encourage your pancreas to release more insulin, a hormone that regulates glucose levels in your blood.

2. Slowing digestion

Another way semaglutide medications help you lose weight is by slowing how quickly your stomach empties. As a result, you feel full longer.

3. Controlling hunger

Lastly, semaglutide medications help control how much you eat by promoting satiety and reducing hunger.

When you combine all of these together, semaglutide works very well, which explains why it’s helping millions of people across the country finally declare victory in their battles to lose weight.

Is semaglutide right for you?

The good news is that this new class of weight loss medications works well for most people. There are some exceptions, such as pregnant women, but we’ve found most people to be good candidates for semaglutide medications.

We also want to underscore that, as well as semaglutide works, it’s not a magic pill, and we do want you to make some lifestyle changes, such as exercising more and eating healthy foods.

When it comes to optimizing your health through weight loss, we’re with you every step of the way with the tools and resources you need, including semaglutide.

To learn more about semaglutide and our other weight loss tools, we invite you to contact CareOne Internal Medicine and Primary Care in Houston or Katy, Texas, today to schedule a consultation. We also offer telehealth appointments.
